Step 1 Preparing the Documents
- The exporter checks with a local Shipping Agent to find out which vessel is going to the destination of the goods to be shipped.
- He then prepares the shipping customs entry for the goods to be shipped.
- The Shipping Agent will prepare a bill of lading for that particular shipment. This must be done before the vessel arrive.
Step 2 Customs
- The entry is then taken to the customs where it will be processed.
- The Customs Officer then checks the documents to make sure everything is ok.
- Then the Inspection Officer do a thorough check of the documents.
- The data is then keyed into the computer.
- Payments should be made to Customs Cashier and the charges on the Port form should be paid to the Port Cashier at Customs.
- The documentation are taken to the Warehousing Officer who checks to make sure what is outlined in the documents reflect in the cargo. The warehousing Officer also makes sure that the cargo is loaded on the vessel.
Step 3 Procedures at Port
- The documents are then presented to the customs boarding officer at the Port. He then performs the final examination of the goods then signs the documents.
- The documents are then taken to the captain of the vessel, who will sign the documents to show that he receive the cargo on board.
- An outward manifest is made up before the ship leaves Port. This manifest is written up to show the description of the goods, the quantity of goods and where the goods are going.
- Then the boat pass is written up and the cargo is shipped.
